Where Will Hidden Orchard be Located?

Hidden Orchard will be located 70 miles from Chicago, 8 miles from New Buffalo, Michigan and 8 miles north of La Porte, Indiana.  This is an area in northwest Indiana where Oprah Winfrey had her weekend home for over 20 years, and features many amenities, including access to the south east shore of Lake Michigan, and a rolling terrain featuring orchards, vineyards, horse pastures, sparkling inland lakes, old-growth woods, and country estates. It is just outside the upscale vacation home community referred to by some as “the Hamptons of the Midwest” known as Harbor Country.

Harbor Country is already an upscale destination for thousands of Chicago area residents. There are over 16,000 weekend homes in the region. See www.harborcountry.org and www.laportecounty.com for more information.

The area has attracted Chicago vacationers for over a century. Some of the many local amenities include:

  • Over 2,000 acres of beaches, dunes, forestlands, orchards, and state parks
  • Award-winning golf courses
  • A thriving artist community, with many art galleries
  • Art movie houses
  • Antiques shops, and one-of-a-kind gift shops
  • Theatre and music groups

This Michiana area has a milder climate, with the prevailing winds from the west flowing across Lake Michigan creating cooler summers and warmer winters than on the west side of Lake Michigan.  Beautiful winters with plentiful snowfalls create opportunities for fun outdoor activities, including cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking through winter wonderlands of old growth forests.  Or, just sitting by the fire after a full day of indoor aerobics, massage therapies, educational sessions, and fun learning sessions will fulfill the winter guest. In fact, focus groups and one-on-one interviews indicate that winter may be the most popular time to come to Hidden Orchard!

Just three miles to the north, Michigan is the fourth largest fruit producing state in the United States.  La Porte County and Berrien County, MI, just to the north, are graced with lush orchards, blueberry farms, and vineyards situated on gently rolling hills.

Hidden Orchard will use locally grown, fresh organic produce in-season provided by local vendors in season, and sourced from high-quality growers out of state during winter months.
